The Most Difficult Piece I've Created

This is Jinx. She is, or should I more properly say "was" an amazing animal and friend to Tim Hill and his family. When I started to create the composite for Tim, I was doing it more as a Portfolio Piece. Just something to have so that I could show people another fun way that they could portray their dog.

Tim , who's a PPA Certified Professional Photographer, in Southlake, TX, gave me several photos of Jinx and just wanted to see what I could come up with. All of the shots were of Jinx jumping into or jumping out of the swimming pool. I thought that I was going to create something fun and funny.

As it turned out, Jinx had recently passed away and my dog, Cooper had just passed away. To say the least, I wasn't in a very funny place and the remembrance of the two dogs put me in a more emotionally sullen place.

I created the piece as my way of dealing with Cooper's death. It was cathartic.

I didn't know what Tim would think about the piece when I sent it to him. So I sent him a series of Text Messages. My texts are in the GRAY BOX:

"They almost made me cry." That is the single best compliment I have ever gotten on a photo. They did make me cry for Cooper. I truly miss him and I keep going back and forth as to whether or not I really did everything that I could for him. Was I a good enough dad?

My biggest regret is that I didn't take enough pictures of Cooper while he was alive. I do have one good picture, but I wish I had taken more.

I'm on my Pet Photography journey, in part, so that other people don't make the mistake that I made. So they do have pictures of their pet friends; a member of the family.

Barn Cats

It's All About The Love!

It's not just about dogs. Cats need love too! HALO No-kill Rescue in Sebastian has a Barn Cats program and they want people to know that cats are a GREAT way to help keep down rodents, chase away snakes (really good for folks like me that respect snakes but are SCARED TO DEATH of them).

All you have to do is provide daily food and water. The cats are really very self-sufficient and can take care of everything else.

As they get to know you, they are definitely friendly and become a true partner in your life and the lives of the other farm animals.

HALO Photo Shoot at Capt Hirams

Pets Welcome

Last Saturday I went to Capt Hirams in Sebastian and did a photo shoot for Halo No Kill Pet Rescue. Capt Hirams is an AWESOME resort and for the first time ever they let Halo use their facility to shoot some pictures, raise awareness, and accept donations for the shelter.

What's it like to be a Gentle Giant?

"Lonely at the Top" is all about the Great Dane experience.

I've seen people cross the street to avoid the gentle giants. However, I've also seen small children, four and five years old, rush up to the dogs and hug them around the neck. What I've never seen is a Great Dane ever have a had attitude or attack someone. They love to play and they love to run and they love to be loved.

This picture simply emphasizes what it must be like to be the Elephant in the Corner.

Super Pit

Super Pit is a fantasy creation I produced just to let people know that you don't always have to think "ordinary". If your pet is strong and you want to show it, then something like Super Pit can easily get that idea across.

In this short video, I show the pieces that I used in order to create the image.
